The Directorate of Social Welfare, A & N Administration is entrusted with the task of providing social justice to the disadvantaged section of the society in A & N Island. The Director has been identified as the nodal authority for providing monetary assistance to the marginalized population in these Islands. The Directorate implements several schemes, under both GOI as well as A & N Administration, for the welfare of the citizens. The Directorate functions under the administrative control of Secretary (Social Welfare) and is leaded by the Director, both offices located at Port Blair. The implementation of the schemes of SWSocial Welfare Department is carried out a field through the Child Development Project(CDPO) Office units functioning through out the Islands. As on date,  there are 5 Child Development Project Office Units, including one at Port Blair, classified as Urban CDPO. The remaining 4 CDPO units are classified as rural CDPO's each unit is headed by a CDPO who reports to the Director.
